Welcome back to Producer Profiles!

This week, we’d like to introduce you to three farmers at once! We’re pleased to tell you more about Three Farmers and their farm-to-fork philosophy.

What does farm to fork mean at Three Farmers? It’s about connecting consumers with all stages of food production – from growing, to harvesting to processing to consuming. In order to show you where your food came from and the process in creating it, Three Farmers’ labels allow you to enter your product code on their web site and find out exactly who made your product and where. If you are already a camelina oil convert, grab the bottle from your pantry and try it out right here.

At Local & Fresh, we carry all varieties of Three Farmers’ roasted chickpeas, which are a portable, protein-packed snack with great crunch and the same kind of flavours you’d enjoy in a potato chip. (The chocolate ones are great if you are a sweet & salty mixed together kind of a person.) We also carry all of their camelina oils, in original and infused flavours. Camelina oil performs well both cold (as a base for dressings or dips) as well as in your frying pan, all while nourishing you with Omega-3 fatty acids.

The Three Farmers brand and some of the faces may be familiar to you: the Vandenhurk sisters (who are farmers’ daughters and part owners) appeared on the CBC TV show Dragons’ Den, pitching a stake in the company in exchange for strategic partnership with one of the dragons. You can see how it all worked out on their web site, including an update on their progress. Natasha, as CEO, focuses on the retailing side, while Elysia, A Red Seal certified chef, works to expand their product offerings and flavours.

This is what the Three Farmers say about their brand:

“…the real emphasis of our brand is on the farming experience, fostering close relationships with our customers, and giving back to our communities in the many different ways we know how.”

Three Farmers has been with Local & Fresh since almost the beginning of our business in Regina, and we are proud to carry their superior products.
