All-Rite Group of Companies and Local & Fresh announced a new lease on life for the former Weston Bakery Building at 1377 Hamilton Street: the majority of the main floor will become the The Local Market, owned and operated by Local & Fresh.

The Local Market will feature three distinct areas: a breakfast/lunch counter and coffee shop area with seating for patrons; the Local & Fresh retail store, and a Community Marketplace area that will offer flexible programming and space for artisan markets, seasonal celebrations and more.

“We knew this building had the potential to become something very special,” said Fred Mehl, Partner in the All-Rite Group of Companies. “It’s been a real project and a labour of love, but I think this space will become a real hub in this neighbourhood.”

All-Rite meticulously repaired and restored the building floor by floor, including removing over 70 tons of steel equipment used in the old bakery. The final steps to refinish and restore the space as something new will take place with the new tenants.

“Bringing a vibrant market to life and connecting producers to their customers is my life-long passion,” said Tim Shultz, Partner in The Local Market and Local & Fresh. “Having a physical space to foster that connection is going to make telling those stories so much simpler.”

“The Local Market gets us another step down the road in our collaborative vision for a more robust, value-added food industry,” said Andrew Rathwell, Partner in the Local Market and Local & Fresh. “We truly hope this is just the beginning of a thriving local food hub in Regina.”

Work on The Local Market will begin immediately, with more announcements about specific vendors and other opportunities to come throughout the summer and into Fall 2017.
