Recipe: Pita Pizzas Save Friday!
Pizza on Friday is a treat the whole family looks forward to. By using pita bread as pizza shells, everyone can choose their own toppings and get exactly what they want, and that’s a pizza win. It also makes clean-up take about five minutes, which is a Friday win!
Pita bread (try Amado’s pitas in white or whole wheat)
Tomato sauce (grab a can or bottle of your fave, or make it)
Mozzarella Cheese (the creamy Bothwell Mozzarella is a divine pizza topper)
There are no wrong choices when you’re making your own pizza (some of us love that pineapple, so just worry about your own pizza). Get as creative as you want, but our favourite thing about these combos is they’re ready as fast as we can grate the cheese and top them with ingredients we already have on hand. Here are a few easy combinations:
Pepperoni & mushroom
Fresh sliced tomatoes & fresh basil
Chicken, mushroom & onion (use bbq sauce in place of tomato if desired)
Meatballs (dice leftovers into small pieces)
Spinach & Feta
Ham & Pineapple
Smoked Gouda, ham slices & sour cherries or apple slices
Preheat oven to 400 F. Line baking sheets with parchment for easy clean up! Pitas can go from frozen to oven if you forgot to defrost them. Top with sauce, then pile on (or carefully place, according to your tastes) toppings, then top with mozzarella. Bake for about 5 – 7 minutes, until cheese is melted and the pitas are crisp. Slice and serve, then go straight to movie night on the couch.
